The Effectiveness of some Communicative Strategies for Developing Speaking Skills among ESRI post Graduate Students at University of Sadat City

Despite the unparalleled characteristics of speaking skill and its vital role in EFL learning process specifically for post graduate students, it does not receive the attention it deserves due to the lack of everyday communication. So the aim of the present study is developing speaking skills among post graduate students at Environmental Studies and Research institute- University of Sadat city. The researcher chose 60 post graduate students randomly and divided them into two groups; experimental group and control group. The instruments of the study were; a pre and post-speaking test, a speaking checklist and the speaking skill rubric. For achieving its goals, the experimental group was exposed to various communicative strategies such as; transactional strategy, contextualization strategy, scaffolding strategy, modeling and sharing strategy, while the control group underwent the conventional classroom activities. a significant difference was found between the mean scores of the of the control and experimental group in the pre-post speaking test in favour of the experimental group. It was concluded that; there were positive improvements in students’ performance in speaking skills after applying the training program that based on some communicative strategies. The researcher recommended further studies using another different communicative strategies for developing speaking skills.
